Southwest Ohio families were asking the professionals in their counties the same questions about leisure, learning and summer activities. This expo is an effort to provide some coordinated, ease of access to to this information.
And when organizations in southwest Ohio linked arms to form the Summer Adventures Planning Parnters. the Summer Adventures for All Kids Expo was born. The first meeting took place in 2004, and the first event in 2005. The partnerships have remained, and so has the committment to families.
The goal of this multi-region, planning group is to pair families of school-aged children, and young adults of varying abilities with choices of leisure and learning opportunities that are both seasonal and year-round. With age, the event has grown to include transition resources, general community resources, equipment and respite options.
This collaboration has resulted in an annual event where families can spend the day having fun while scouting-out local, regional, and state vendors who offer activities, camps, and therapeutic supports, as well as transition from school to adult life, limited respite and community resources.
Summer Adventures for ALL Kids is driven by a spirit of inclusion. This is reflected in the entertainment you will see, as well as the variety of vendors you’ll encounter. While some vendors specialize in the support of children and adults with disabilities, others are typical organizations and businesses. The shared valuing of inclusion extends into our efforts to assist vendors who want to expand their capacity to support people with disabilities. These vendors are offered opportunities to talk with experts who can help them learn to effectively include individuals with developmental disabilities into their programs and activities.
Our newest feature is yet another way help expand options for families by helping vendors learn what it takes to become providers. During the event this year, vendors will also be able to talk with experrts about becoming respite, Level 1, and Individual Options waiver providers. We also continue to see vendors and families learning from and networking with each other.
We will continue to work to deliver a quality vent that provides information, options, and fun for families.
