"THE SUMMER ADVENTURES FOR ALL KIDS, including kids with disabilities" idea was birthed back in 2004 by a group of professionals and parents who had a similar problem; finding good and safe summer time activities for their disabled children. There were several different splinter groups giving out information but nothing on a larger scale.
As these very creative people got together, they discovered that this information could be presented in such a way that families, children and professionals could be entertained, fed and informed all at the same time. By bringing the event out of stuffy professional offices and into a public arena, it changed the focus into something that could be fun as well as informational.
As the planning was underway, this group went to a local mall that was in the middle of all four major counties and presented the idea. The Mall overwhelmingly grabbed the idea and the event soon became an exciting undertaking!!
As vendors starting to sign up to display their summer time offerings, other vendors who had never worked with disabled children but heard about the event started showing some interest in also particpating. At that point, the planning group decided to change the expo focus to ALL kids and not just the disabled ones. Three years later, the group of vendors continues to grow in purpose and in size.
In 2006, over 2000 families came to get information for their children for summer time activities from approximately 100 vendors. They also got fire and police safety help, autographs from retired and current sports celebrities, an opportunity to be a part of a live broadcast from WARM 98 and 8 entertainment group performances emceed by Channel 9's own Steve Raleigh.
Last year , 2007, the event was moved to another mall location that was on the Cincinnati Metro busline. It is the committee's dream to serve every person who desires and needs this kind of vendor exploration, regardless of their transportation issues.
